Obituary for LARRY E MCKEE

Larry Emerson McKee, age 84 passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2018 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth campus.  

Larry was the only child of Ermal F. and Lois (McGriff) McKee and was born at the Kelly Hospital in Argos on December 3, 1933. His parents were farmers and he lived at various locations in Marshall and Fulton County. He attended grade school at the Walnut Township School. Argos Elementary and graduated from the Richland Center High School in 1953. He was active in sports and was a member of the Richland Center Wildcats who won the 1953 sectional. He was named to the all-star sectional and regional teams.  

Larry and Sally Swihart were married on June 30, 1957, at the Argos Methodist Church and celebrated 61 years of married life. Larry retired from Dean Foods after 39 years of service. In 1960 he and Sally moved from Plymouth to a home on Nutmeg Road in Green Township, Argos. Larry was active with the Democratic Party, serving as vice and later township chairman. He was a three-time delegate to the state convention. He served as treasurer of Santa Anna United Methodist Church for many years. He as a member of Steel Workers 5840 and held the offices of president and treasurer. Larry loved bowling and belonged to two leagues. In later years he became interested in golf and traveled to various course in the area. He missed that hole in one by a matter of inches, Larry loved the Cubs and the “wait until next year” finally came in 2016! He enjoyed mushroom hunting and head many trips with friends hunting Michigan and Wisconsin. He helped with the Argos Little League and made a practice field for the team in a field by his house. Larry was also was a member of Plymouth Moose Lodge 741.  

He leaves behind his wife, Sally, a son Larry Douglas and his wife Jenjira along with their daughter Jenna of Garland, TX and a special niece, Mary Kathryn Wheeler of Indianapolis. He was preceded in passing by his parents and a special sister-in-law, Mary Lunde.  

Memorials may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society or Blessings in a Backpack.  

The Van Gilder Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements for the McKee family.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana 46563 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation with Pastor Henry Sprunger officiating.   Burial will be at the Richland Center Cemetery with a graveside service at 4:30 p.m.
